• We will use SMS text messages to communicate with you when it’s time for a check-in interview.
• To get started with SMS text message updates, you will receive an initial text message asking you to reply with “START.”
• The research and interviews will be conducted through automated surveys with an IVR system over the phone with the number (351) 300-0668. For some of the questions, you can answer with your voice, while for others, you will use your keypad to respond.
• There will be a total of 10 check-in interviews throughout the study, eight of which are every other month, and two will be scheduled as “pulse checks,” with the timing to be determined further into the study.
• Each survey lasts approximately 20 minutes. When a new survey is available, you will be notified via a text message from (351) 300-0668. You will then need to call (351) 300-0668  when you are free to complete the survey. You will have about a week to complete each survey, and you can call this number any time of the day or night. 
• As a token of our appreciation, we will provide you with a $40 gift card upon completion of the call.

• We will record your responses through an interactive voice response (IVR) system that is designed for your convenience.
• It allows you to take the survey at any time that suits you and to speak for as long as you wish. 
• One of our specialized researchers has pre-recorded the questions, and you will respond by either pressing a button on your phone keypad or by speaking. Your voice responses will be recorded to capture the valuable insights you provide accurately.

• When the check-in interview is ready for you, you will receive an SMS text from the number (351) 300-0668.
• You will also receive notifications from this number regarding your reward once it has been sent to your email.
• We recommend saving this number (351) 300-0668 in your phone contacts during the research period, so you don’t miss any communications.

• Once you receive the SMS text notifying you that the survey is open, you will need to call the survey number (351) 300-0668.
• When taking the survey, we recommend that you are in a quiet place with a strong phone signal and that your phone has enough battery power. This will help ensure that we can hear your responses clearly.
• There’s nothing else you need to do to prepare for the interview.

You are the expert, so we appreciate whatever answers you give us. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions. You can answer in any way you like and speak for as long as you wish. However, we value detailed responses, so feel free to share as much as you want!

You can opt out of the study at any time. This decision is entirely yours, and there are no consequences for choosing not to participate. To opt-out and stop receiving any communication regarding the study, please write to our customer care email at investordiaries@buildcommonwealth.org indicating that you wish to opt-out. 

Don’t worry! You can complete the survey at your own pace each week when a survey is open. If you get interrupted or the call gets disconnected, you can call again as many times as needed. Your responses will be saved, and you will start where you left off in your previous call.

During the survey, we will record your answers to capture the valuable insights you provide accurately. In addition, your check-in responses and your individual investing trends will be used to generate material that will be shared with stakeholders and disseminated in the media. Videos and audio recordings may be used by Commonwealth for educational and/or marketing purposes. If your interview were to be used, you would be identified by first name, and your occupational field, city and state would also be cited. The results of this research project will be published with early findings and a final report that will be shared with partner stakeholders and disseminated via a media campaign online. The interviews will be recorded and transcribed. We may feature excerpts from these recordings on our website to share the findings from the study.

The research period will last approximately a year and a half, until early to mid 2026.

Collecting data through your recorded interview check-ins and our platform partner is important in our research on finding ways to make investing more inclusive and accessible to all. We will be receiving audio clips from your interview and information on the investments you are making and the investment performance.

We may use audio clips and quotes about your investing experience in our storytelling that identifies participants by first name only.
