The Hidden Burdens of Student Debt & The Potential of Employer-Provided Solutions

A growing number of employers are offering student loan repayment assistance as a benefit to their employees to alleviate the student debt burden, and recent policies present new opportunities to do so.
To add to existing research on the link between student loans and employee financial well-being, Commonwealth, with the support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, surveyed more than 600 working Americans with incomes between $30,000 and $75,000. These findings can help employers better understand the impact that student loans have on their employees’ financial lives and recognize employee preferences for workplace benefits that may address their needs.
