Mary Dent

Board Member at Woodruff Sawyer and Banking Circle US; Managing Director at Klaros Group

Mary is an experienced executive and Board member who has spent more than 30 years in the financial services and technology sectors, working with companies ranging in size from early stage startups to large, publicly traded global enterprises. She is a Managing Director at Klaros Group, and serves on the boards of Woodruff Sawyer, one of the country’s largest privately-held insurance brokers, and Banking Circle U.S., a newly licensed commercial bank building a fully cloud-based, scalable financial infrastructure to support real-time, global clearing and settlement for payment services.  Previously, Mary served on the Boards of SeedFi (acquired by Intuit/Credit Karma), Aspiration, Green Dot Corp., Green Dot Bank, and Vestwell.

Mary has a long-standing commitment to public interest Board service. In addition to serving on Commonwealth’s Board, Mary currently serves as Chairman of the Board of All Five, a not-for-profit preschool program, as a Board member and Chairman of the Finance Committee for American Leadership Forum – Silicon Valley, and as an Advisory Board member for Stanford University’s Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (“IRiSS”).

Mary’s executive roles include CEO of Green Dot Bank, General Counsel and VP Public Policy of Silicon Valley Bank/SVB Financial Group, General Counsel of New Skies Satellites, and General Counsel of Insikt. In addition to Mary’s corporate experience, she served as counsel on Senator Kennedy’s Labor and Judiciary Committees and as an attorney advising telecommunications companies.

Mary’s business knowledge and leadership skills have been recognized on a variety of occasions, including as one of the Most Influential Women in Payments (Payments Source – 2018), a Silicon Valley Woman of Influence (Silicon Valley Business Journal – 2012), and as one of the 40 Most Powerful Businesswomen in the Netherlands (de Volkskrant – 2002). 

Mary is a graduate of Stanford Law School (JD 1989) and U.C.L.A. (BA, Economics, 1983).
