Rules of Thumb Show Success as Cost-Effective Tool

Last month, Urban Institute released new research, co-authored by Commonwealth staff, that consumers who received two different Rules of Thumb such as Don't Swipe the Small Stuff “had, on average, $104 and $58 less in revolving credit card debt, respectively, six months after receiving the messages.”

At a cost of just 50 cents for each person involved in the 13,000 participant test at the Arizona Federal Credit Union, Rules of Thumb prove to be a cost-effective and useful way to make a real impact on credit card debt.

Our new Rules of Thumb toolkit provides a guide for financial services providers and community organizations to create their own.
